Registering a DBA in Mississippi
Mississippi does not have statutes requiring or permitting the registration or filing of DBAs or fictitious names, therefore Mississippi Secretary of State office does not list or register DBAs.
An equivalent of a DBA can be filed with the Secretary of State in case of a foreign corporation, if it's name is not available due to a conflict. The foreign corporation may then qualify by filing its qualification documents and a copy of the resolution of its board of directors, certified by its secretary, electing an available DBA. The DBA may not contain the word "corporation," "incorporated," "limited," or an abbreviation thereof.
So how can you protect your business name in Mississippi? Viable solutions include registering your company as LLC, corporation or another legal entity separate from it's owners, however we advise to consult with your attorney about additional ways of protecting your business name.
