What steps are required to set up an LLC in NJ for a business located in California. What fees are involved.

Jeri,

The real question here is why would you want to form your LLC in New Jersey if your business is located in California?

If you are looking for a way to avoid the franchise taxes imposed on California companies then this plan might not work, as you are physically located in California and sooner or later would probably be forced to register you LLC there anyway (as a foreign entity). If you are looking for a fast way to form an LLC with the intention of registering it in California later then you should also consider Delaware as the state of organization.

If I understand your intention correctly then it would probably be cheaper to form your LLC directly in California. You can check the prices of forming a California LLC on our website.
