Registered in Delaware, want to open bank account in California

Asked by: Thomas - 20 April, 2012 I have an LLC registered in Delaware. It is an online business. I want to open a bank account in California. Must I also register in California?
Answered by: Robert Kowalski - 20 April, 2012 Dear Thomas,

Having a bank account in a state other than the state of registration does not by itself constitute "doing business" in that state. Therefore you can open a bank account for your Delaware LLC in any state without the need to register it there.

With that being said, most banks would require you to supply them with a letter written by your company attorney or a CPA, stating that your company does not do any business in the state where you want to open a bank account.
