NJ LLC wants a NYC address

Asked by: Daniel  — 13 September, 2012

Hello,
I formed a one member LLC in NJ. I want to be able to write a NY address on my product. Is it possible to do it? Do I need to register my LLC also in NY? or can I just rent a box office for or small office space for customers to contact me?

Dear Daniel,

It all depends on the level of your company’s business activity in NY. If you just want to list a NY address on your product, and have it as a mailing address, then you probably do not create enough case in NY to consider your company as doing business in that state.

If, however, you open an office in NY then it would create nexus and require you to register a foreign entity in NY.
