Registering a DBA in New Mexico
New Mexico does not have statutes requiring or permitting the registration or filing of DBAs or fictitious names as it is common in most other states. Some suggest registering a Reserved Name as an alternative, in order to be able to perform such operations as opening a bank account, however keep in mind that name reservation expires after 120 days, making it a questionable solution.
So how can you protect your business name in New Mexico? Viable solutions include registering your company as LLC, corporation or another legal entity separate from it's owners, however we advise to consult with your attorney about additional ways of protecting your business name.
